The Design/Build Advantage

Whether your project is large or small, the design process is an investment which will save you time and money. You will have a visual of your project before you begin. You can mentally live in your space, make changes on paper; choose fixtures, colors, furniture, and even artwork. Before you sign the contract to build your project you will have worked with all the key people involved in your project. Cost estimates will be created along side of design drawings. The process creates a sense of team work and there will be few, if any changes or surprises once construction begins. This is the best, most efficient way for you to get "What you Want, On Schedule and On Budget".

There are many very talented architects and designers. We love working with them and bringing their ideas to fruition. For those of you who do not already have your own designer or architect, we offer tips and recommendations for selecting one. It would be ideal if you, the client, could interview contractors and designers/architects until you find the team that best suits your needs and work with them as a team from inception. If you already have your own designer and even a complete set of drawings, it is not too late. The design process is not complete until you, your designer, and your builder have thoroughly reviewed your plan together, have made the choices necessary to keep the project within your budget, and are ready to sign a comprehensive contract which clearly answers these three questions to everyone's satisfaction: What, When, How Much?

We recommend you choose a builder based on the builder's reputation, your ability to communicate with that builder, and your designer's ability to communicate with your builder. You can't go wrong if you follow this advice. Admittedly, you will have to compensate your team for the time they invest in the design process but consider the potential savings and your peace of mind. You can quickly and easily make changes to the plan, the budget, and even the personnel during the design process. It is far more difficult and stressful to resolve problems once construction begins.
